Community Guidelines
Ruta del Jefe is built on the belief that adventure is most meaningful when it creates connection—to people, place, and community. We are committed to fostering a welcoming, respectful, and inclusive environment where participants feel safe, supported, and valued.
1. Community Over Competition
Treat others with kindness, respect, and curiosity. Be mindful of the space you take up and help create an environment where everyone feels welcome to participate, contribute, and belong.
2. Respect People and Their Identities
We celebrate the diversity of our community and expect participants to respect one another's identities, lived experiences, gender expressions, names, and pronouns.
Harassment, discrimination, racism, xenophobia, homophobia, transphobia, sexism, intimidation, unwanted sexual attention, or other harmful behavior will not be tolerated.
3. Engage Differences with Respect
Participants are entitled to their own views, perspectives, and beliefs, and respectful disagreement is welcome. While traveling to and participating in Ruta del Jefe, participants are expected to treat the people they encounter with dignity and respect, including those whose views, work, or roles they may strongly disagree with. This includes fellow participants, local residents of Patagonia, local law enforcement, mining employees, and Border Patrol and ICE personnel. Respectful conduct does not require agreement, endorsement, or silence—it means engaging without harassment, intimidation, dehumanization, or hostility.
4. Practice Consent
Respect personal boundaries and obtain consent before initiating physical contact, taking close-up photographs of individuals, or engaging in interactions that may make others uncomfortable.
5. Care for the Land
The borderlands are a remarkable and sensitive landscape. Please help us care for the places we visit by practicing Leave No Trace principles, packing out trash, respecting wildlife and vegetation, and leaving campsites, routes, and gathering spaces better than you found them.
6. Support One Another
Ruta del Jefe is a community effort. Offer help when appropriate, look out for one another, and contribute positively to the participant experience whenever you can.
7. Alcohol and Substance Use
If you choose to consume alcohol, please do so responsibly and with consideration for those around you. Excessive intoxication, unsafe behavior, or actions that negatively impact other participants may result in intervention by event staff.
8. Campground Quiet Hours
To support rest and recovery for all participants, quiet hours are observed from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM.
9. If Something Doesn't Feel Right
If you experience or witness behavior that violates these guidelines, we encourage you to speak with an event organizer, volunteer, or staff member. We are committed to addressing concerns thoughtfully and respectfully.
By participating in Ruta del Jefe, you agree to contribute to a culture of respect, accountability, stewardship, and care for both people and place.
